Insomnia

Life in modern western society is far more stressful than life in ancient China, but the way the emotions relate to organs continues to be relevant, as is taking a holistic approach to health.

As everyone knows, insomnia is a very common problem in Australia. In Chinese medicine way, insomnia is related to “heart”. The Chinese concept of heart should not be confused with the idea of heart disease in conventional medicine: having a “Heart” disharmony dose not mean that you are going to have a heart attack!

The “heart” is the seat of individual consciousness, giving us the ability to be calm and therefore to sleep soundly. The “heart” is often involved in insomnia, which is likely to result from the presence of heart, producing hyperactivity, or a deficiency. Besides “heart”, other organs or triggers may be involved in insomnia, such as lack of “Blood” causing the mind to wander, or imbalance of Yin and Yang in kidney, leading sweating, or a disharmonious liver, causing restlessness. Identifying the exact cause is important in order to select an appropriate remedy.

In our clinic, we have had plenty of successful cases in treating insomnia. According to the different condition of bodies, we help the insomniac with individual Chinese herb medicine formula. For some cases they may need acupuncture as well to help their bodies get improvement quickly, particularly for those patients who have already been suffering from insomnia for long time.

In general, a quite number of insomniacs have the other symptoms such as anxiety, palpitations, tiredness, and depression. Normally those symptoms will be relieved after improvement in insomnia.
