Bronchitis

Bronchitis is a common disease of the respiratory system with symptoms that mainly comprise coughing, phlegm and difficulty in breathing. Generally, it happens after a patient catches a cold. In some cases, coughing lasts for several weeks, months or even more.

In face, coughing could be a reaction of the body fighting against the bacteria or viruses that were brought on by the cold or flu. However, coughing may still occur after the bacteria or virus has been cleared, because the bronchia are still sensitive – particularly during sleep. In these cases antibiotics do not seem to work well.

In China, there is another effective way to treat bronchitis besides Western medicine.

That is acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).

In the TCM theory, there are different types of coughing according to the symptoms and diagnosis. For different types, such as dry, wind-cold, wind-heat, Qi vacuity, Yin vacuity and phlegm-damp, the treatment should be different. Individual formulas are used even for the same type of cough in different people because their body conditions can be different. Acupuncture can stimulate the immune system to increase the body’s defence against germs and co-ordinate the parts of the body for balance.
